In 2021, the Fair Board undertook a comprehensive strategic assessment of long-term facility and grounds needs, prompted in part by the significant damage caused by the 2019 flooding. While several structures were affected, the Hog and Sheep barns received some of the most severe damage. At the same time, even amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fair experienced continued growth, a trend that has not only recovered from the floods but has remained strong through 2025. These realities have reinforced the need for modern, resilient, and adaptable facilities.
The Ag Pavilion will replace the damaged Hog and Sheep buildings and will also enable the relocation and repurposing of both the south commercial building and the metal goat barn. Located along the south side of the main entrance to the Fairgrounds, the Pavilion will mirror the size and aesthetics of the existing RVR Building. It is designed not only to house livestock during the Fair but also to accommodate the relocation of the main show ring from the RVR Building and expanding that facility’s event flexibility year-round.
Funding for the project is being sourced through four distinct pathways:
1. Fair Board and Friends reserves: Approximately 25% of the project cost is already committed from operational successes and prior fundraising.
2. Foundational donor: A lead donor has pledged an additional 25%, which will include naming rights for the facility.
3. Financing: The Fair Board has the capacity and willingness to secure financing for another 25% of the project.
4. Capital campaign: Friends of the Fair is now seeking private donations to fund the remaining 25%. Contributions exceeding this target will be used to reduce both loan
commitments and cash contributions required from the Fair Board.
